Today 3 Aug we are up early Ian has gone off to get a haircut from an non English speaking hairdresser who is very handy with a cut throat razor, so who knows how he will come back, but he had put in his translator short back and sides. 😬

We are off to Siena today which involves not so much transport just supposedly we will see. Wrong.... We took bus , two trains and taxi to get to the Piazza Del Campo which is famous for many this including the horse race which is run on the 16th August each year called Il Palio it dates back to the 1700 and used to be a competition between families but now it is run by jockeys. There a museums around the square as well including the tower which we could have climbed but seeing it was 218 steps we decided against it.

the museum is housed in the public palace which was built between the 13th and 14th century. Within the square is a rectangle fountain Fonte Gaia which has beautiful figures around its edges, this is not the original. Lunch was again had at a restaurant in the campo. After lunch we walked to visit yet another Duomo, we are finding it hard to decide which is the best as each one is very different.

Sunday tomorrow, no buses so will have a day just around San Gimignano.
