We arrived at the Jackson Hotel after an interesting drive from Galway, the GPS Loves taking you off road if you make one wrong turn. But we made it..... we sat next to a trio of women out for a girls weekend so they gave us all the local gossip what to do and what not to do, which was very helpful. So we were up the next day to take a not so long drive to Glenveagh Castle, which turned out to be very informative, in 1846 the first owner John Adare first saw the land called Glenveagh he and proceeded to purchase all the land around it all 2800. 48 tenants were on the land and he decided he didn’t want any tenant so forced them off there land. He builds the castle modelled on Balmoral Castle. He destroyed all the tenants homes so they couldn’t return. He died in 1885 his wife kept the castle until her death in 1937. The last owner eventually restored the estate from 1937 -1983 when he sold the land around the castle and donated the castle to the heritage fund to be used for the people. Very interesting.

While there we had lunch with a lovely Irish couple, we had an hour to Kill so got into some interesting conversations as the wife was American and the husband was broad Irish, anything from brexit to Donald trump and Boris Johnson. And Tony Abbott ( I think the question asked was had we ever had a leader we were embarrassed by).

We asked about there summer weather and the Irish man said it is either a memory or dream.....

We then asked about the sign that says the Wild Atlantic Way. He was quick back with well if it said Tame Atlantic Way nobody would come to see it. When he said goodbye he said he would remember Ian every time he saw that sign. On to Mullingar......
