10th August

Yesterday our adventure consisted of a car trip up in the hills from Aix, first stop was the smallish village of Cadenet. But being a Sunday not much was happening, we had a walk around the town and a look at the cathedral from the outside. We tried to find a cafe but the only one we came across was one with a live band playing it sounded great but a little too lively for lunch.

So back to the car and on to Lourmarin which was a little bit bigger. By this time it was nearly 4pm so we were going to take whatever was available. The village centre was beautiful with the obligatory small streets and curb side cafes and the usual cafes in a square with a fountain. After lunch a short stroll took us up to the Chateau of Lourmarin.

The Chateau was built in three parts the fortress in 12th and 13th century, the first Chateau in 1480-1536 in the Gothic Style, the the renaissance style was built in 1526. It was then owned by the same family for over 200 years before being sold to another family who owned it until 1920. Since 1927 it has been privately,an aged by the Robert Laurent Vibert foundation.

Lourmarin is know for its bell towers and from the Chateau you got a very good view of the entire township

another great day.
